Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher are friends with benefits.
What if you could be intimate with your best friend and yet be in a non committed relationship. That is what Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher are doing in the new comedy “No Strings Attached ” They are two best friends who in one moment become friends who have certain benefits.
Natalie Portman plays Emma, who is a nurse intern at a Los Angeles hospital. Ashton Kutcher plays Adam, who is a freelance screenwriter who works on a show that is supposed to be a spin off of both High School Musical and Glee . Emma and Adam have known each other for a long time. They are the best of friends. But when Adam wakes up in her Emma’s apartment after a night of drunken conduct, things change. Here their relationship becomes intimate and they decide that they will sleep with each other and not have or develop feelings for each other. Emma wants a non committed relationship in which they can be with each other but not fall in love. But in Adam’s case that does not happen as the film goes along.
This movie is a very well done comedy. It is full of wit and sweetness and it overall is very cute. It is one of those rare comedies that come around and actually has a strong connection with its intended audience. The film almost shows everybody how a relationship functions. While having the sex part of it in clear black and white, it also shows how emotions are the key ingredients in a strong relationship. As the movie goes on we find out that it is near impossible for a couple to have a friends with benefits relationship and not soon after develop strong feelings and emotions for each other. That is the core of this movie. It is about a couple who engage in this relationship and it brings up the emotional aspect of having a relationship like this. This movie is well worth the time and money. Natalie Portman is now one of my favorite actresses. I have never been a huge fan of Ashton Kutcher but I do give him tremendous kudos for this movie. The rest of the supporting cast was excellent as well (Greta Gerwig, Ludacris, Kevin Kline, Cary Elwes, etc). This movie also marks a great directing choice for director Ivan Reitman, who directed classics like Stripes and Ghostbusters . Overall this is a very cute movie that is a lot of fun and has a lot of heart in it.
