Unforgettable Review

When it comes to CBS the word procedural comes to mind. And with that comes their new drama Unforgettable starring Poppy Montgomery of Without a Trace. It’s based on the short story written by J. Robert Lennon called The Rememberer.

Former homicide detective Carrie Wells, played by Montgomery, has the ability to remember every moment of her life. It’s a condition called hyperthymesia which only a handful of people in the world actually have. One of them is Taxi star Marilu Henner who is a consultant on the show. Now, Wells is volunteering at a retirement home as well as counting cards to make ends meet. But, when she is the only witness to a murder, her former boyfriend Detective Al Burns played by Dylan Walsh, who was on FX’s Nip/Tuck, asks her to work with him on the case. After eventually solving the case, she agrees to work with Al’s unit in the New York Police Department to assist in solving other cases that come their way. Kevin Rankin of NBC’s Friday Night Lights and Trauma also stars as Detective Roe Sanders. In the end, the only thing Carrie cannot remember is her sister’s murder.

This is a unique premise for a show like this. The special effects that are used are just amazing. To see Carrie going back into her memories to find the clues is the best part of this show. I am afraid that with it being centered on solving crimes, it’s not going to be much different from the other procedural dramas on television. So it needs to have something that will separate it from the rest of the pack. I really like the cast and the premise of it in the end. I give Unforgettable three out of a possible four stars. All-new episodes air Tuesdays at 10/9c on CBS. What do you think of Unforgettable? Is it different from all the other shows on CBS? Or is it just another procedural drama that we don’t need?
